I was in Livingston visiting some family and I guess since I live in Seattle, I am a little spoiled by having a lot of breweries around me. But this was not too bad given the fact it is in Montana! The Pale was really pretty weak though.

Just moved to Livingston, Had to hit up the Z-bar, home to Neptune Beers. Recently the Brewer has produced a barleywine with an Alc content so high, the barkeep wont let you take it home in a growler. Truly the best barleywine I've ever tasted! Not sharp at all, incredibly smooth but still very flavorful. I'm not saying anything on the other beers, not worth the trip... but for the barleywine, make the time!

Neptune Brewery is growing but the local support is a testament to the lack of alternatives more than the quality of beer. One exception is the Toad Back Bock; this is a great, smooth drinking beer. The Nut Brown, the Cream Ale, and the Pale Ale are watery, weak, and unexceptional.

Locals seem to like it. They need some help with their beer though. Everything tastes the same, except for the porter which tasted like plastic. Supposed to be a smoked porter I guess, never tasted a smoked porter like that though.

Stopped in Livingston one afternoon on the way through to Bozeman. I had had their Pale before at the Timber Bar in Big Timber and I enjoyed it very much. They had about 4 beers on tap when I was there. I tried the stout and amber, both real good. Worth a stop if you are ever around Livingston, I'll be back again.
